The CBMedia-produced program for laSexta delves into the testimonies of those who survived the flood, as well as the grief of those who lost loved ones.
The investigative program produced by laSexta in collaboration with CBMedia aired History of the DANA, a special episode that reconstructed minute by minute one of the most devastating natural disasters in recent Spanish history. Six months after the storm that ravaged the Valencian Community and the southeast of Castilla-La Mancha, the show, directed by Glòria Serra, offered a gripping account of the events that unfolded on October 29, 2024. The Sunday broadcast achieved a 6.6% audience share, with over 800,000 average viewers.
Equipo de Investigación delved deeply into the stories of flood survivors, as well as the anguish of those who lost their loved ones. Among them was Toñi, who lost her husband and daughter in the garage of their building, and Juan José, who found his mother lifeless among the ruins of his home. The special also examined the institutional response, highlighting the prior warnings and lack of coordination that left hundreds of people vulnerable to the disaster.
The images, real 112 emergency call recordings, and firsthand accounts conveyed the full scale of the catastrophe: 228 people dead, hundreds of homes destroyed, and thousands of lives shattered. History of the DANA not only paid tribute to the victims but also prompted an urgent reflection on what happened and on the measures needed to prevent such a tragedy from happening again.
